Who is Collecting Your Information
You should be aware, however, that Publix may share information provided through the Web site with third parties under contract with Publix in order to provide Web site users with the various features offered on the Web site. Such contracts with third parties include obligations upon the third party to keep all information obtained during such contract confidential and secure.
What is Collected, and How Do We Use It
Although you can visit the landing or “Log In” page of the Web site at www.publixplan.com without providing any personal data to us, the rest of our Web Site can be accessed only by current Publix Associates. In order to navigate past the “Log In” page, you will be required to input your Publix Associates Personnel Number and Last Name.
Certain sections of our Site include forms through which you may be asked to provide additional information. Listed below is a general description of the kinds of personal data requested on these forms and the primary purpose for which such data is used.
The “Legislator Search” page collects information about your geographic location in order to assist you in identifying your area legislators. You are only required to input your zip code in order to access this feature.
The “Contact Us” page also collects information from Web site users who wish to contact Publix or to post a comment or suggestion. This information is strictly used to process and fulfill the contact request and/or to send the Web site user requested information and/or responsive e-mails. In addition, this page may request optional demographic information to use for internal marketing research to better serve our Web site users in the future, to make improvements to the Web site and to help target our communications.
The “Become a Key Contact” page collects certain narrative information from you if you wish to identify a legislator with whom you have an existing relationship. Information that you choose to furnish via this page is provided to employees in the Publix “ Government Relations” department, who make note of it and may use that information in conversation with an elected official. However, the information that you furnish on this page is not otherwise publicized or shared outside of our Government Relations department.
We collect additional information about how you use and access our Web site. This information enables us to improve the Site by making it more accessible and easier to navigate.
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer our Web site, track Site user navigation and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners. This is not linked to any personal information that identifies any individual person. Publix may use your profile information to create personalized content, offers, and services, but this information will only be used by Publix and its affiliates. Publix and its affiliates may release information when required to do so by law (for example, under a subpoena, court order or other regulatory requirement or to maintain or protect the security of the Site). As noted above, Publix may share our Web site users’ personal information with third vendors who are under contract with Publix in order to provide our Web site users with the various features offered through the Web site. However, such contracts with third parties include obligations upon the third party to keep all information obtained during such contract confidential and secure.
Publix uses secure connections during the transmission of log in, registration and membership information. This means that information collected through those pages dealing with sign in, registration and membership information, is encrypted before it is sent over the Internet between your computer and Publix computers. The technology used is called Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Through the use of this technology, your information collected through those pages dealing with sign in, registration and membership information is encrypted on your computer, sent through the Internet as jumbled code and decoded on either Publix's secure server or the systems of the third party contracted to provide the service in question. You can verify that the connection is secure because you will see a key or a padlock at the bottom of your browser. Another identifier of a secure connection is the URL (or Web site address); the address will change from http://www.publixplan.com to https://www.publixplan.com when a secure connection is in place.
